Next Week Sneak Peek :)

Happy weekend everyone! I've been working on a little something this past week and I finished it up today! It is an extra credit opportunity for early finishers in my Reading classes: BOGGLE! I made a large Boggle board that will change weekly for the kiddos to try to make the most words worth the most points! Here's a peek at what it looks like!

The object is to create words using adjoining letters. The letters must touch horizontally, vertically, or diagonally!

Here's an example!
The word I created was mowers!

I am really excited to have students start using it on Monday!

We covered a lot this week! We worked on summarizing nonfiction texts and showed what we learned by drawing comics! How do comics show what we learned? The task was to take a nonfiction book (we chose history nonfiction, to go with our history objectives) and summarize it through images in a comic strip format. I had students write an outline of a summary as a first draft and use that to create their designs! Here is a glimpse of what we created this week!

We also learned about the 8 geographic regions of North America and created a foldable to help us study! Here's what it looks like:

We have just finished our first full week and are starting my favorite part of reading class....NOVEL GROUPS! I am hoping the students are as excited about it as I am. We are reading, Holes, Bridge to Terabithia, The BFG, Maniac Magee, and many other great novels! Students will be able to use the reading they do for groups to count towards their reading logs each night, so it pulls double duty!
